| Paul Cézanne demonstrated it in practice and on a very high level of reflection, thus manifesting the painted
tableau's claim to autonomy: Painting constitutes a two-dimensional composition on the surface of the canvas, having
to deal permanently with its own spatial illusions. The Swiss painter Rémy Zaugg (born in 1943) has been
working on a systematic and logically consistent analysis of tableau painting. The Nuremberg exhibition will show
some groups of early works from the seventies, when he started working on this topic, as well as very recent works. |
