Series of talks by Arta Valstar-Verhoff
March 9-12, 1998, all at 8 p.m.
Evening 1: Where Modern Art has Its Roots.
Evening 2: City Culture and New Art
Evening 3: The Beginning of a New Century. Expression and Abstraction, Construction and Dream.
Evening 4: Leaving the Old Continent
For a deeper understanding of modern and contemporary developments in art, we
must look back at the roots of modern art, at the period of radical change in Europe around 1800 and the resulting
developments. In four evenings, the lecture series Basis of Modern Art will attempt to trace those developments
through the 19th and 20th century and to present some explanatory models. Arta Valstar-Verhoff has already devised
various series of events for the Bonner Kunstverein and repeatedly held seminars at Bonn University's Institute
for Art History.
This series of talks was made possible by CONTEMPORARIES e.V., vereint für die Kunsthalle Nürnberg.
